Generation change in spring 2024:
ICA builds the new ticket vending machines
Hanover – The starting signal for the generation change of the ÜSTRA ticket vending machines has been given. The manufacturer of the 312 new ticket vending machines will be ICA from Dortmund, which won the tender for the project.
ÜSTRA and ICA will now jointly develop a prototype in the coming months. This will then be tested extensively by employees and passengers. ÜSTRA’s goal is to be able to respond optimally to customer wishes. The new ticket vending machines are scheduled to go into operation throughout the entire route network in spring 2024.
The previous machines have been in use since 2007 and numerous spare parts are no longer available. The new ticket vending machines will not only be technically up-to-date, but will also have additional functions that go beyond the mere purchase of tickets. At all stops, it will still be possible to pay by card as well as by cash. At the same time, the number of vending machines at which only cashless payments can be made will be increased.
Elke Maria van Zadel, CEO of ÜSTRA: “During the Corona pandemic, card payments became much more important in our everyday lives. After the comprehensive introduction of cashless payment in all buses of ÜSTRA and regiobus, we are now also taking this social trend into account with the new generation of vending machines. In this way, we want to take a further step towards digitalisation without disregarding alternative distribution channels.”
Torsten Kappes, Sales Manager and Sales Director of ICA Traffic GmbH, says: “We are very pleased that we were able to convince ÜSTRA with our performance and innovative strength in the tender process. Together we will implement a highly innovative and attractive project, rolling out the latest generation of our front-end terminals and software products.”
