Tap & Ride® for the entire Central Swabia Transport Association

In Germany, the second major transport authority has now adopted the ID-based ticketing solution from ICA Traffic GmbH.

Dortmund, 26 June 2026 – ICA Traffic GmbH has successfully won the tender issued by the Central Swabia Transport Association (VVM) for the introduction of a modern ID-based ticketing system. With this contract award, ICA is further strengthening its position as one of the leading providers of digital ticketing solutions in German public transport and marking another important milestone within the Bavarian transport associations.

As part of the project, ICA, acting as a turnkey provider, will supply and implement a complete ID-based ticketing solution, including approximately 500 ‘Traveller CLX’ validators. The solution combines a high degree of operational flexibility with a sustainable approach to infrastructure. The validators will be installed both as mobile units and as fixed installations at stops. A total of around 200 vehicles will be equipped with the system.

With the introduction of ID-based ticketing, the Central Swabia Transport Association will become the second transport association in Germany to switch entirely to cashless and paperless ticketing. Passengers will benefit from a simple and convenient public transport experience, whilst transport operators can rely on efficient processes and a future-proof technical platform. ICA’s central back-end system ensures the intelligent management and processing of all transactions and provides transport operators with a real-time overview of payments as well as tap-ins and tap-outs. At the same time, passengers can keep track of their travel authorisations at all times via the customer portal and can, for example, conveniently download receipts for travel expense claims themselves. In this way, ICA lays the foundation for a modern, user-friendly and fully digital ticketing experience. In addition to ticket sales, the system also enables the necessary interoperability, control and the use of tickets purchased across different transport networks. ICA Traffic thus supports transport associations in actively shaping the path towards connected and future-proof mobility. Tap & Ride®

“Being awarded this contract by the VVM once again confirms the effectiveness of our end-to-end system solutions and the high level of expertise within our team. We are delighted to have earned the trust of the transport association and look forward to successfully implementing another pioneering ID-based ticketing project,” says ICA CEO Heinz Sander

With this contract win, ICA is consistently continuing its growth trajectory as a partner to transport associations and transport operators in their digital transformation.
