Dortmund, 23 July 2025 – With the launch of a new contactless ticketing solution, ICA is taking another significant step towards digital transformation in local public transport. From 23 July 2025, Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH (NVS) will be adopting this forward-looking ID-based ticketing system. The cashless and paperless system is based on the Tap & Ride® principle and continues to support anonymous travel behaviour among passengers. Fifteen modern ICA Traveller CLX units will be installed in trams and connected to NVS’s existing back-end system, marking a further step towards the digitalisation of ticket sales.
ICA is providing the complete system solution for ID-based ticketing and is also making a customer portal available to passengers.
Passengers benefit from simple, anonymous access to public transport. Transport operators benefit from reduced administrative effort in ticket sales.
Get on, tap your card, set off
With ID-based ticketing, tickets are purchased simply by tapping an EMV-enabled debit, current account or credit card on the Traveller CLX. Optionally, the system automatically calculates the best fare in the background, without passengers needing to know the fare structure. This makes buying tickets not only easier, but also accessible and significantly faster.
Via the customer portal embedded on the website, passengers can view their completed journeys, download receipts (e.g. for expense claims) and keep track of their payments.
Mobile checks and future-proof infrastructure
To verify travel authorisation, ICA provides a web-based customer portal and mobile verification devices. To verify travel authorisation (tap data) in real time, inspectors use mobile Android-based data collection devices. This system component is also fully integrated into the overall ICA system, enabling a fully digital process chain from boarding to inspection.
One system – many benefits
The decision to adopt ICA’s ID-based ticketing system stems from a desire to modernise and digitise sales processes. For passengers, this removes barriers and significantly simplifies the ticketing process for occasional travellers.
The benefits are clear:
