[CASE STUDY]

Tap & Ride® for the entire Central Swabia Transport Association

The challenge:

The Central Swabia Transport Association (VVM) wanted to modernise its local public transport system by introducing a fully digital ticketing system. The aim was to simplify ticket purchasing and passenger processing, replace paper- and cash-based processes, and create a future-proof infrastructure. At the same time, the solution had to meet both the requirements of transport operators and passengers’ expectations for a convenient and flexible public transport system.

The solution:

With Tap & Ride®, ICA Traffic GmbH, as a full-service provider, is implementing a comprehensive ID-based ticketing solution. Around 500 Traveller CLX validators are being installed in approximately 200 vehicles and at fixed locations at stops. The central back-end system processes all transactions in real time and enables transport operators to manage payments as well as tap-ins and tap-outs. Via a customer portal, passengers can access their travel authorisations and receipts at any time. Furthermore, the solution supports fare control, interoperability and the use of tickets purchased across different transport networks.

The result:

With the introduction of Tap & Ride®, the Central Swabia Transport Association has become the second transport association in Germany to rely entirely on ID-based ticketing. Passengers benefit from a simple, cashless and paperless ticketing experience, whilst transport operators can streamline their processes and operate on a scalable, future-proof platform.
